Vlka Fenryka - Pre Heresy Long Fangs Completed

I managed to finish the Long Fangs last weekend and also bagged in a couple of games along the way. A great hobby weekend indeed! This is great progress on my part and hopefully I can maintain my momentum to finish by end March, which in couple of days.. I'm pretty happy with the end result and those forge world pre heresy missile launchers are the belle of the ball! Enjoy the pics below.

Next I'm planning to do either one Rune Priest or the Rhino. In the meantime, appreciate your comments. Laters..

Space Wolves Vs Necrons Battle Report (1750 points)

Space Wolves by escudero-d3jo0fp
Sorry no hobby pics this time as I've been playing more rather than spending time on the hobby table. I had an interesting match with a Necron player John, at our local hobby shop Battlefield Bangkok not 2 days ago. It was a close and almost even match but the Space Wolves came out victorious. All the gory details as per the bat rep below.

Mission: Annihilation, Deployment: Spearhead, 1750 points

Space Wolves

HQ
Wolf Lord, Storm Shield, Power Fist, TW mount, 2 Fenrisian Wolves, Runic Armor, Wolftooth Necklace

Rune Priest

Rune Priest

ELITE
4 Wolf Guards, 2 Wolf Claws, Chainfist, Thunder Hammer, 4 Combi Melta

TROOPS
7 Grey Hunter, Wolf Standard, Power Fist, Meltagun, Mark of the Wulfen
7 Grey Hunter, Wolf Standard, Power Fist, Meltagun, Mark of the Wulfen

FAST ATTACK
4 Thunderwolves, 4 SS, 1 Meltabomb, 1 Plasma Pistol, 1 Thunder Hammer

 HEAVY SUPPORT
5 Longs Fangs, 4 M. Launchers

DEDICATED TRANSPORT
Land Raider
2 Rhino

The strategy is simple; Rune Priests, attached with the Grey Hunters will provide medium range fire power with their Jaws of the World Wolf and backed up by the Longs Fangs. Grey Hunters will provide adequate cover for the Rune Priests and more of a meat shield in this mission as there's no objectives to be contested or claimed. The Wolf Lord on TW mount with the TW cavalry will be the main hammer of this army. Rune Priests will wither down opponent's units and the TWs will deliver the killing blow! I'm not too keen with the Wolf Guards on board the Land Raider as their main purpose to hunt tanks or transports early in the game. I was proven right as the LR was pretty much useless in this game, more on in the battle report below.

Necrons

HQ
Overlord 1, Phaeron, Mindshackle Scarab, War Scythe, Resurrection Orb
Overlord 2, Phaeron, Mindshackle Scarab, War Scythe

Royal Court 1

Cryptek HO Despair, Veil of Darkness, Abyssal Staff
Cryptek HO Destruction, Solar Pulse, Eldritch Lance

Royal Court2

Cryptek HO Destruction, Solar Pulse, Eldritch Lance

TROOPS
10 Necron Warrior
10 Necron Warrior
10 Immortals, Tesla Carbine
10 Immortals, Gause Blaster

FAST ATTACK
10 Canoptek Scarabs
10 Canoptek Scarabs

HEAVY SUPPORT
3 Annihilation Barge, all with Gauss Cannon

John was actually experimenting with this list and I don't quite remember his main strategy was. All I can say by studying this list was to create havoc on my rear deployment by neutralizing in coming threats. This was done by using the Immortals attached with the Overloard and his Royal Courts to deep strike behind enemy line to create diversion while his main forces advance in the form of Annhilitation Barges, Canoptek Scarabs and his remaining Necron Warriors.

The Battle
I won the roll off but decided to go second. The battlefield was pretty much open with 2 big ruins on each deployment and couple of small ruins at the center table. John decided to reserve all of his units, part of his strategy experiments.I placed my Long Fangs behind a stonewall up on the hill to get a better vantage point. Rune Priests with the Grey Hunters were embarked in the Rhinos and deployed next to the Land Raider, which were moving into the midfield area of the table. The Wolf Lord and the TW Cavalry followed closely behind the Rhino.

Turn 2
Straight to Turn 2 as not much going on in the previous turn, except I moved closer to the center field. That would be my first mistake, I totally forgot that the Scarabs has fleet! The Necrons started coming in piecemeal in the form of 10 Scarabs and Immortals with the Overlord and his Royal Court. The Overlord with his Necrons teleported right behind the Long Fangs and decimated them. The Scarabs moved in and charged the Land Raider and living up to their reputation, the Land Raider didn't stand a chance and was wrecked.

Reacting to the death of the Long Fangs,  one squad of Grey Hunters with a Rune Priest rushed back in their Rhino to intercept the Overlord with his Immortals. They disembarked and the Rune Priest unleashed Jaws of the World Wolf on the necrons. 3 went down immediately and more followed after volley of bolters from the Grey Hunters, only to be risen back. The Wolf Guards, dazed from the Land Raider wreckage fired all their combi meltas in hatred towards the scarabs. Adding to the conflagration, another rune priest unleashed Jaws on the scarabs downing another 3 bases. The Wolf Guards charged the scarabs and destroyed them.

Kill points; Necrons 2, Space Wolves 1

Turn 3
More necrons came in with 2 annihilation barges, 10 scarabs, all Necron Warriors with their Crypteks and another Overlord with his Immortals plus Royal Court. The new Overlord teleported back to intercept the Wolf Guards and the exposed Rune Priest and his Grey Hunters. The other Overlord moved within assault range of the Rune Priest and unleashed all sort of Necron weaponry, from the Tesla Carbine to the Abyssal Staff killing all but the Rune Priest and 1 Grey Hunter. The Overlord with his minions charged, but the Rune Priest unleashed a terrifying war howl and counter attacked the Overlord, killing him with his Runic Weapon. The Rune Priest howled victoriously but it was short lived when a necron lord took the opportunity and cut the Rune Priest in half with his war scythe. The other Grey Hunter found the 'red snow' as well and perished Meanwhile, in the center field, the Scarabs charged in and wrecked a Rhino.

Having dealt a serious blow from the xenos, the Space Wolves set about to counter attack. Coming out of the Rhino wreckage, the Rune Priest with the Grey Hunters ready to assault the Scarabs. The Wolf Lord with his Thunderwolf mount moved away from his TW cavalry to assist the Rune Priest. The rest of the cavalry moved back to exact vengeance on the necron who cut down the Rune Priest earlier. The Wolf Guards also moved into assault position to attack the necron lord. To quickly sum up, the Scarabs were annihilated, the necron lord, cryptek and the immortals were all destroyed with a combined charge from the TW cavalry and Wolf Guard terminators. The remaining Overlord could only watch as the Wolf Guards and TW cavalry advancing on his position...

Kill points; Necrons 5, Space Wolves 4

Turn 4
By now all necron forces are already in the game. The annihilation barges moved in firing position and targeted the now exposed Rune Priest with his Grey Hunters at the center table. The Rune Priest survived but 6 of the Grey Hunters were smoking heaps. The Overlord, seeing the incoming TW Cavalry and Wolf Guards, teleported back to safety in their deployment zone, and fired on the Wolf Lord. Shots merely bounced off from the formidable Wolf Lord's Thunderwolf mount. The Overlord thought that they teleported to safety, but things are about to change...

Angered by the cowardly shots from the necrons, the Wolf Lord and his Thunderwolf released a terrifying war howl and set about to charge the Overlord and his necron minions, all by himself. Swearing an Oath to Russ, he galloped with his Thunderwolf and charged the surprised Overlord. The Wolf Lord with his Powerfist, is a whirlwind of pure violence and 5 immortals were cut down and never to revive again. Prior to that, sensing their Wolf Lord's anger, the rest of the TW cavalry moved to assist their their lord but not at the moment as he's a bit too far. The remaining Rune Priest moved into cover and beyond sight of the annihilation barges.

Kill points; Necrons 5, Space Wolves 4

Turn 5
The necrons could only watch as the TW cavalry advanced closer to their Overlord's position, who is currently engaging the Wolf Lord. The annihilation barges fired at the TW cavalry but caused only 1 wound.

With a mighty war cry for the Wolf King, the TW Cavalry charged the Overlord. The Overlord and his necrons were all destroyed in one glorious round of combat. Even Mindshackle Scarabs failed to cause any confusion amongst the ranks of the Wolves.

Kill points; Necrons 5, Space Wolves 6

The game ends on turn 5 and victory for the Vlka Fenryka!

Vlka Fenryka - Pre Heresy Long Fangs

I didn't get much done this past 2 weeks due to my MBA finals week. Got a term paper to finish and thank god it's done now. I managed to finish one Long Fang by the way, as per the pics below. In the spirit of the upcoming 30k Crusade by Legio Malaysia, I used the missile launchers from Forge World to have that pre heresy look. Check it out below:

That's about it for now, hopefully will get more done soon as my dateline of finishing by end March is fast approaching. Appreciate your comments guys. Laters..
